Jude Alderson

As a writer and composer, almost all Jude’s plays feature her own original music. Jude founded the legendary Sadista Sisters in 1974 and the company performed for the next 12 years throughout Europe (particularly in Berlin) at international festivals, theatres and clubs, including a residency at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho.

In 2001 Jude formed amaZonia, a music theatre production company for which she continues to write, compose and direct. She won a Year of the Artsit award in 2000 for her large scale community piece A People’s Opera written for a cast of 65 and string orchestra.

Jude collaborates regularly with Steve Edis (National Theatre, Sheffield Crucible, RSC), who is currently co-composing the music for Itinerants and is musical director of Entartete Musik. They are also in the process of working on a jazz opera The Choker.

Jude is a published song-writer. Jude also runs regular workshops in acting, song & expressionism, improvisation and Commedia dell’ arte/grand guignol techniques and mask in London, Paris and South West France. She has run workshops and lectured internationally at festivals, universities and theatrical institutions.

Steve Edis

Musical Director of Entartete Musik and Co-composer of THE CHOKER

As a Composer: many plays at the National Theatre, including The Coast of Utopia, Summerfolk, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Albert Speer, The Merchant of Venice, An Enemy of the People, The Cherry Orchard, The Relapse, Not About Nightingales (for which he received a Drama Desk nomination in New York) and new music for The Royal Hunt of the Sun. Other composition for the stage includes Hamlet (Old Vic); Singer (Tricycle); We Happy Few (Gielgud); Measure for Measure (RSC and Young Vic); Macbeth and The Government Inspector (Watermill, Newbury); and A Christmas Carol (Alley Theatre, Houston, USA).

As an Arranger: countless musicals at the Open Air Theatre (this year’s is The Boyfriend); The Threepenny Opera (RNT); Golden Boy (Greenwich); Brighton Rock (Almeida); Guys and Dolls and Sweet Charity (Sheffield Crucible); The Wizard of Oz (Birmingham Rep); The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Leicester Haymarket), and numerous pantos for the Hackney Empire.
